Eye Protection on the job site
There are two main forms of eye protection on the job site. You can go with Saftey Glasses or Saftey Goggles. We are going to cover the pros and cons to both, but first, we want to go over why you need to care about eye protection.
On most job sites, there are a lot of moving parts that end up putting things in the air that can hurt your eyes. From dust, sparks, flying rocks, falling tools, or you may simply run into something. There can also be liquids and chemicals that can cause damage to your eyes. At the end of the day, it is our gold to see everyone return home just as safe as they showed up for work. To do that, job foremen must require proper eye protection.
Types of eye protection.
Safety Glasses are ideal for most job sites, and even better when you opt for glasses that have side protection to prevent objects from hitting your eyes from the side. Safety Glasses are designed and tested to take high impacts and to not shatter when hit. This will protect your eyes from damage most of the time.
Safety Goggles are more of a complete set of protection, as they form a dome around your eyes that are harder for foreign objects to penetrate. But with this protection, they are also a bit warmer to wear for long periods.
If you wear glasses to help you see better, goggles might be a better fit for you.
Do I need eye protection?
It is estimated that roughly 1 in every 2000 workers sustain eye injuries daily on the job site and 90% of the injuries could have been prevented.
